knit together…maya’s story

i am beyond excited to share with you today the story of this sweet family that i was blessed to document behind the lens.

Maya’s story

Carlos and I had been praying to become parents for years. It was a painful time as we realized that living in an imperfect world meant that some things in our humanly bodies were also imperfect and could only be fixed by a perfect God.  We grieved together and prayed together knowing that he works everything for good for those that believe in Him and are called according to His purpose.  We clung to scripture as best we could…believing that God knits life in the womb, believing that He can do miracles, believing that He has a purpose and a plan for our lives as well as every life.  We also knew that our dream to have children came from God’s heart and not from the enemy.  Scripture says that, “children are a reward and a blessing!” We kept praying for God to open my womb but it didn’t open. At the same time, God started to place adoption on our hearts.
We were on the waiting list for a child that was “knit together” by God. We knew the child wouldn’t have our blood running through their veins, so we relied on the truth that the blood of Jesus which makes us a new creation & family was far more important and powerful than any DNA from a man.
Two months ago, we received a call from the social worker asking us if we wanted to become parents the very next day!

God knew that little Maya, 3 days old, would need a home and had arranged it so that the hospital would “happen” to call our agency and we would “happen” to say “yes!”

Our sovereign God placed Maya in our home… nothing “happens” by chance. Saturday night, we were on our way to bring our little girl home!!!

We are loving every minute that we spend with Maya.

She is officially the cutest, sweetest, child in the entire world! (can you tell we are proud parents???)

We are embracing parenthood: the morning smiles, the late night feedings, the drooling and spit up, the cries and coos!

We will love Maya for as long as God allows us to!

We are so grateful to God and her birth mother for the gift of life, the gift of adoption.
